The 3.21 Dash is a 5k charity run organized by The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro (DSNGG), that takes place annually in downtown Greensboro in March.
Event proceeds benefit the DSNGG in its efforts to support individuals with Down syndrome (Ds) and their families in our community. The DSNGG also offers financial assistance and scholarships to families who need help providing medical or therapeutic services for their children with Ds.
For this Logo design, I sought to incorporate blue and yellow, the official colors of DS.  The title of the event is derived from March 21st, which is World Down Syndrome Day.  The race's previous logo used three shoe-prints as an analogy to the three 21st chromosomes a patient with Down Syndrome has in trisomy.

I put my son's running shoe on the scanner for the main image, then manipulated it in Photoshop.  From there I arranged the text and images in Illustrator.  The T-shirt mockups below were composited in Photoshop.
Here I've added some afterimage footprints to set the white text off of a white background, such as if printed on a letterhead, or on a flyer.  Below are some T-shirt mockups.

Here are some other samples of prototypes and poster images that were products of the process:

These two shirt designs were playing with a single shoe option.
These ideas were working with the 3-shoe idea and just needed a few more drafts to distil the idea down to the final logo.
